After an epic 57-hour journey covering 1,800 km and two ferry crossings, we’ve finally arrived safely at our home in Darmarochori. Now, it’s time to unpack and enjoy a well-earned coffee.
The trip was smooth, except for one hiccup on the first ferry (from Brindisi to Igoumenitsa), where the crew misjudged our car’s height, forcing us to remove our 80kg roof box. It took four people to lift it off and then back on again the next morning—frustrating at the time but, in hindsight, a typically hilarious travel mishap.
The moment we set foot on Greek soil in Igoumenitsa, we felt at home, embraced once again by Greece’s warmth and hospitality. The drive to Piraeus was effortless, filled with breathtaking landscapes. We made two wonderful stops along the way—beaches for coffee and lunch—much to the delight of our dogs!
This morning, Crete welcomed us with a breathtaking pink sky and a stunning sunrise. And, as if that weren’t perfect enough, our dear friend Gabriella greeted us at the house—without her, it wouldn’t be the home we love so much. We are forever grateful!
With today being Sunday and tomorrow Clean Monday, we now have two days to settle in before everyday life resumes.
But most importantly… we are here. And we can’t wait to see what life in Crete has in store for us!
